Why We Built Picovert

Picovert started from a simple frustration: nearly every free online image tool asks you to upload your files to a server you know nothing about. For a quick format conversion or a small resize, that meant handing personal photos, client work, and confidential documents to a stranger's computer — often with vague terms about how long files are kept. Modern browsers had become powerful enough to do all of this work locally, so we set out to build a complete toolkit that never uploads a single file. Picovert is the result: fast, free tools where your images are processed entirely on your own device.

Privacy First

Privacy is not just a feature — it is our core principle. All file processing happens client-side using WebAssembly and browser APIs. We have zero access to your files. There is no account required, no data stored, and no tracking of your file activity.

Technology

Picovert runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly, which lets compiled, near-native code execute locally on your device. Image conversion, compression, resizing, and cropping are handled with high-performance WebAssembly modules; GIF and video conversions are powered by FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly; and AI background removal uses the RMBG-1.4 neural network running directly in the browser. Because all of this executes on your own hardware, there are no uploads, no processing queues, and no servers storing your files.

Built with Care

Every tool on Picovert is hand-crafted and tested across browsers. We use real browser technologies — WebAssembly for image codecs, the Canvas API for transformations, and transformer models for AI features — rather than server-side shortcuts. This means your files stay private and processing is fast.

About the Developer

Picovert is an independent project launched in 2026 and maintained by a small team that cares deeply about privacy and web performance. We are not backed by a large company, and we do not sell, share, or even see your files — the entire product is built around the principle that your data should stay on your device. We continuously add new tools, fix issues, and test across browsers based on feedback from people who use Picovert every day.
