Amazon Product Image Size Requirements: Complete Seller Guide 2026

Amazon has strict image requirements for product listings. Images that meet or exceed the technical standards rank better in search, appear in the zoom feature, and convert more shoppers into buyers. Getting your product images right is one of the highest-impact things you can do as an Amazon seller — here's exactly what Amazon requires.

Amazon Product Image Size Requirements

  • Minimum size: 1000×1000 px on the longest side. Images below this threshold do not qualify for the Amazon zoom feature, which significantly reduces conversion rates
  • Recommended size: 2000×2000 px — the sweet spot for zoom quality and fast load times. Amazon will downsample images larger than 10,000 px
  • Maximum size: 10,000 px on the longest side; maximum file size is 10 MB per image
  • Aspect ratio: square (1:1) is preferred. Portrait and landscape are accepted but square images display most consistently across all device types

Amazon Main Image Requirements

The main product image (also called MAIN) has additional requirements beyond size:

  • White background required: pure white (RGB 255, 255, 255). Any background color other than white results in the image being suppressed or rejected. Use Background Remover to remove any existing background, then replace it with white
  • Product fill: the product must fill at least 85% of the image frame. Large amounts of empty white space are not permitted
  • No text or graphics: the main image must not contain promotional text, watermarks, borders, or inset images
  • Professional quality: the image must be professionally lit, in-focus, and accurately represent the product

Amazon Secondary Image Requirements

Secondary images (PT01, PT02, etc.) have more flexibility:

  • Any clean background color is allowed (white, gradient, lifestyle setting)
  • Text callouts and infographics showing product features are permitted
  • Lifestyle images showing the product in use are encouraged
  • Dimension diagrams and comparison charts are acceptable
  • Same size requirements apply: minimum 1000 px on the longest side

Accepted File Formats for Amazon Product Images

  • JPEG/JPG: most commonly used and recommended. Best compression-to-quality ratio for product photography
  • PNG: good for graphics with transparency, though Amazon converts all images internally to JPEG for display
  • GIF: accepted but not recommended (static only; limited to 256 colors)
  • TIFF: accepted; useful for high-resolution print-quality assets

How to Prepare Amazon Product Images

  1. Start with a high-resolution original — at least 2000×2000 px if possible
  2. Use Background Remover to isolate the product from any background
  3. Place the product on a pure white canvas using an image editor
  4. Resize to exactly 2000×2000 px using Image Resizer
  5. Compress with Image Compressor to keep the file under 1–2 MB while maintaining the detail Amazon needs for the zoom feature

Amazon Image Tips for Better Conversions

  • Use all 7 image slots: listings with 7 images consistently outperform those with fewer. Each slot has a different purpose: main, angles, lifestyle, features, dimensions, packaging, and comparison
  • Show scale: include at least one lifestyle image where the product is shown with a person or familiar object to convey size
  • Infographics for features: text callouts on secondary images showing key features increase conversion for technical and high-consideration products
  • 360-degree views: for eligible categories, Amazon supports 360-degree spin images which significantly boost engagement

File Size and Compression for Amazon

Amazon accepts images up to 10 MB, but smaller files upload faster and are processed more quickly by Amazon's servers. Target 500 KB to 2 MB per image:

  • JPEG quality 85–90% is ideal for product photography
  • Avoid over-compressing — Amazon needs detail for the zoom feature
  • Use Image Compressor to optimize each image before uploading to Seller Central
