Adjusting image opacity

What opacity does

Opacity controls how see-through the whole image is. At 100% it's fully solid; lower it and the image fades, letting whatever is behind it show through. The result is saved as a PNG, the only common format that stores partial transparency.

This is perfect for watermark-style overlays, faded backgrounds behind text, or ghosted images in a design.

Not the same as removing a background

This fades the entire image uniformly. To make only the background transparent (keeping the subject solid), you'd need background removal — a different operation.

Frequently asked questions

What format do I get?

A PNG, which preserves the partial transparency. JPG can't store transparency.

Does it make the background transparent?

No — it fades the whole image evenly. It doesn't isolate or remove a background.

Will the dimensions change?

No, the output keeps the original size.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The opacity is applied locally in your browser.
