Flipping vs. rotating an image
What flipping does
Flipping mirrors an image across an axis. A horizontal flip swaps left and right (like looking in a mirror) — useful for fixing selfies, where text appears reversed. A vertical flip swaps top and bottom, creating an upside-down reflection.
Flipping is not the same as rotating. Rotating turns the image around its center; flipping produces a mirror image. Many editors confuse the two, so it helps to preview both.
Why flip an image?
Common reasons: correcting front-camera selfies that came out mirrored, creating symmetrical or reflection effects, matching the direction a subject faces in a layout, or preparing assets for print where the design must be reversed.
No quality loss
Flipping only rearranges existing pixels, so there's zero quality loss — the output is pixel-for-pixel identical to the original, just mirrored. The tool draws your image to a canvas in your browser and exports it directly.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between flip and mirror?
They're the same operation. "Mirror" usually refers to a horizontal flip, which is what you'd see in a mirror. This tool offers both horizontal and vertical flips.
Will flipping reduce image quality?
No. Flipping just reorders pixels, so the result is identical in quality to the original.
Can I flip a JPG and keep it a JPG?
The tool exports a high-quality image you can save. For lossless results, PNG is recommended; JPG export uses high quality (92%).
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The flip happens on a canvas inside your browser. Your photo never leaves your device.
