Wix Image Size Guide 2026: Dimensions for Every Section

By Picovert Team2026-04-065 min read

Wix automatically handles a lot of image optimization behind the scenes — CDN delivery, WebP conversion, and responsive sizing — but you still need to upload images at the right dimensions. Use the wrong size and you'll get blurry hero images, cropped logos, or product grids that look mismatched. This guide covers the exact image sizes for every section of a Wix website in 2026.

Wix Image Sizes — Quick Reference

  • Hero / full-width strip: 1920×1080 px (16:9)
  • Background section images: 1920×600–1920×800 px
  • Blog post featured image: 940×529 px (16:9)
  • In-article images: 940 px wide maximum
  • Product / store images: 1000×1000 px (1:1 square)
  • Logo: 250×250 px minimum (PNG with transparent background)
  • Gallery images: 1280×960 px (4:3) or 1280×720 px (16:9)
  • Favicon: 32×32 px or 64×64 px
  • Max upload size: 25 MB per image
  • Supported formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP, TIFF

How Wix Handles Images

Before diving into specific sizes, it helps to understand what Wix does automatically:

  • CDN delivery: All uploaded images are served from Wix's global CDN. Visitors worldwide get images from a server geographically close to them.
  • WebP conversion: Wix automatically converts uploaded images to WebP for modern browsers. You don't need to convert images to WebP before uploading.
  • Responsive sizing: Wix generates multiple sizes from your upload and serves the appropriate size for each device. Upload at 2× resolution for retina clarity — Wix will serve the right size.
  • Automatic compression: Wix compresses images on upload. Start with a well-optimized original to get the best result — Wix's compression can add visible artifacts if the original file is very large.

Hero / Full-Width Strip Images

The hero image (also called a "strip" in Wix) is typically the first large image visitors see on a page. Recommended dimensions:

  • Recommended: 1920×1080 px (16:9 landscape) — covers most desktop widths
  • Minimum: 1000 px wide
  • File size target: under 500 KB for fast First Contentful Paint

On mobile, Wix crops hero images from the center. Keep the most important visual content — faces, product, headline context — within the central 60% of the image width. Use Wix's built-in focal point tool to tell Wix exactly which part of the image to keep visible when it crops for smaller screens.

For photos, use JPEG at 85–90% quality or WebP. For graphics with text or hard edges, use PNG.

Background Images (Page Sections)

Background images that sit behind section content behave the same as hero images, but they often have a different aspect ratio because they're not full viewport height. Common sizes:

  • Standard section background: 1920×600 px to 1920×800 px
  • Full-height background: 1920×1080 px

Background images are frequently displayed with a color overlay or blur effect to improve text contrast. Design your background images with this in mind — they don't need to stand perfectly alone, but should have enough tonal variation to look good under an overlay.

Blog Post Images

Wix blog images have two distinct uses:

  • Featured image (thumbnail): 940×529 px (16:9) — this appears in the blog feed, recent posts widgets, and social sharing previews. The 16:9 ratio ensures it renders correctly in all of these contexts without unexpected cropping.
  • In-article images: The Wix blog editor displays images up to 940 px wide. Images wider than 940 px will be scaled down. Target 200 KB or less per in-article image to keep page load fast.

Use the image resizer to get your blog images to exactly 940×529 px, then use the compressor to bring them under 200 KB before uploading.

Product / Store Images

For Wix Stores, consistent square product images give the cleanest grid layout:

  • Recommended: 1000×1000 px (1:1 square)
  • Maximum useful size: 2000×2000 px — uploading larger than this provides no visible benefit as Wix won't display it larger
  • Background: white background for main product shots gives a clean, consistent storefront appearance
  • Additional images: use the same 1:1 ratio for all product gallery images to maintain consistency

All product images in a store should share the same aspect ratio. Mixed ratios create an uneven grid that looks unprofessional. If your product photos are rectangular, use the resizer to standardize them to 1000×1000 px.

Logo

The Wix logo placement appears in the header and scales based on the theme. Best practices:

  • Format: PNG with transparent background (alpha channel) — ensures the logo looks correct on any header background color
  • Recommended size: 250×250 px minimum. Since Wix scales it, upload at 2× (500×500 px) for retina clarity
  • SVG: Wix also supports SVG for logos. SVG scales perfectly at any size with no pixelation, making it the best format for logos with fine detail or text

Never upload a logo as JPEG — JPEG doesn't support transparency, so your logo will have a white rectangle around it on colored headers.

Gallery Images

Wix creates thumbnails automatically from uploaded gallery images. For the best results:

  • Photo galleries: 1280×960 px (4:3) or 1280×720 px (16:9)
  • Consistent aspect ratio: All images in a gallery should share the same ratio. Mixing landscape and portrait images in a grid gallery looks messy — Wix will crop them to fit
  • File size: under 300 KB per image. Galleries load multiple images at once, so file size has a larger cumulative impact than single hero images

Favicon

  • Recommended: 32×32 px or 64×64 px ICO or PNG
  • Wix accepts uploads up to 100×100 px for favicons
  • Keep the design simple — favicons are tiny and fine detail is lost at 32 px. Use the converter to create the right format if needed

Performance Tips for Wix Images

  • Use Wix's "Image Quality" setting: In the Wix editor, each image has a quality setting. Use "Super High" for hero and key images, "High" for most others.
  • Avoid PNG for photographs: PNG is lossless and creates large files for photos. Convert photos to JPEG or WebP with the converter before uploading.
  • Hero images under 500 KB: This is the threshold for a good First Contentful Paint score. Use the compressor to hit this target without visible quality loss.
  • Upload at 2× for retina: Upload hero images at 1920 px and product images at 2000 px — Wix will serve the right size for each device, and retina screens will display full sharpness.

Step-by-Step: Preparing Images for Wix

  1. Identify the image type (hero, product, blog, etc.) and check the recommended dimensions above.
  2. Use the image resizer to set the exact dimensions. For hero images, resize to 1920×1080 px. For products, resize to 1000×1000 px.
  3. Use the compressor to reduce file size. Target under 500 KB for hero images and under 200 KB for blog and gallery images.
  4. For logos, make sure the file is PNG with a transparent background. For photos, save as JPEG at 85% quality.
  5. Upload to Wix and use the focal point tool on hero and background images.
